Animated Documentary - Week 4

As shown by this mood board, we started to look into concepts for the 'Silk Goddess Leizu', known as the Chinese Empress who discovered silk from silk worms in her garden. We decided to start our documentary with Leizu as she is the beginning to the origin of silk, looking into many depictions of her in order to get an idea of what she may have looked like.

I also have a mood board for the range of products which use silk. This shows the benefits silk has provided for the world today:
Below are the designs I was able to come up with for these modboards:

Animated Documentary - Week 3

Marco Polo
For this week I started to create some character designs based on images I find on the explorer Marco Polo who travelled on the 'Silk Road.

I tried exploring different ways of drawing Marco Polo's features in very exaggerated ways to make him look more interesting:

I also did some character concepts for another figure related to the Silk Road and Marco Polo, Kublai Khan:

Animated Documentary - Week 2

Looking through different resources we looked for information concerning the 'Silk Road'.
We looked into significant figures of the Silk Road such as Marco Polo and the types of merchandise and things traded along the Silk Road.

We discussed what we wanted to include in the short documentary so that we don't include too much yet provide enough information to inform the audience about the Silk Road.

Animated Documentary - Week 1

For this module we are required to form a team with a chosen theme:
Sustainability, Science, History, Politics

With a balanced group of skillsets we should work on pre-production, production and post-production.

For my group we decided on choosing the theme history and decided to focus on trade. We researched into possible historical moments of trading such as different eras and across countries (e.g. roman era).

This led to narrowing trade down to the 'Silk Road' which was ancient network of trade routes used till this day. Used for trade and cultural interaction the Silk Road had many purposes for transportation especially for what it got it's name from, silk.
